Silent Generation is a horror short film that explores the dark side of aging and isolation. An elderly man faces a terrifying turn of events while performing a mundane chore - laundry. As he navigates the challenges of getting older, a seemingly ordinary task takes a sinister turn, revealing a hidden horror within the confines of his own home.
The film delves into the unsettling experiences of the elderly, focusing on themes of loneliness, vulnerability, and the fear of the unknown. The suspenseful narrative and eerie atmosphere create a disturbing yet thought-provoking experience for viewers. Silent Generation offers a unique perspective on the challenges faced by the older generation.

DownloadAs a filmmaker, my primary goal is to create a profound and emotional connection between the audience and the story being shared on screen. With "Silent Generation," I sought to explore the complexities of human resilience and the quiet strength found in moments of solitude. My love for horror films, which I grew up watching, profoundly influenced this approach, as they often delve into the psychological and emotional depth of the human experience.
Much like the horror films that captivated me, "Silent Generation" examines the inner demons we all face, but instead of externalizing fear, it explores the tension and power of introspection. I aimed to bring the same intensity and atmospheric depth that horror films use to evoke suspense, but here, it's the quiet moments that carry the emotional weight.
Through the narrative, I wanted to delve into the ways people confront their inner fears and find solace in their personal journeys. The visual style and pacing were crafted not only to mirror the ebb and flow of introspection but also to evoke the mood of isolation often seen in horror — drawing the audience into a reflective and intimate experience where solitude and perhaps even abandonment becomes as unsettling as it is powerful.
I hope that "Silent Generation" resonates with audiences on a personal level, encouraging them to reflect on their own stories and the silent strength within them. My goal is that this film not only entertains but also inspires empathy and understanding, sparking conversations about the power of quiet moments in our lives and the unseen battles we all face, especially our loved ones who might have been set aside or forgotten. Do yourself a favor, call your grandparents!
This film was inspired by watching the decline of my grandparents – and one incident in particular, depicted roughly accurately in the film – that shaped my views on aging, particularly of the thin and fragile thread connecting the elderly to the rest of us and how easily that thread can be broken when the isolation of old age sets in.
This was a labor of love for everyone involved, including the vintage washing machine enthusiast who helped us secure our needed washing machine and all the friends, technicians, and artists – and probably most importantly, our actor, Leo, a 90-year-old friend facing serious health problems who wanted a chance to artistically comment on his impending mortality – who helped bring this dream to life.
As we say at the close of our podcast each time, “Horror films are our collective nightmares.” -Robin Wood. What better topic for a first contribution to the horror genre than a terrifying fate we’re all facing – age and obsolescence?
